In 1853, Don Tomas Urquidez built a three-room adobe house near what today is the intersection of Hillside Avenue and Outpost Drive in the Hollywood Hills. It was a pivotal moment in real estate history—the first Hollywood Home. He included on his property a social club called “The Outpost,” setting the tone early for the Hollywood Hills ethos of exclusivity and an enjoyment of the finer things in life.
Today, Outpost Estates commemorates this history with a dedication to the upscale lifestyle that has made the Hills world-famous. Initially built out exclusively in Spanish Colonial style, today the architecture encompasses styles from Mediterranean to Contemporary to Mid-Century Modern. Outpost Estates luxury homes command list prices with medians just north of $3 million at $1,125 per square foot.
This ideal location within the Hills is tucked up against Runyon Canyon Park. Between the 1960s and the 1980s, residents of Outpost Estates led a successful effort to preserve the park from development. The result—residents of Outpost Estates and their guests enjoy unparalleled access to miles of hiking and biking trails, culminating in Runyon Ranch and Indian Rock Peak.
Not surprisingly, Outpost Estates real estate is where you look if you prefer a view of trees and nature over views of the Sunset Strip, urban sprawl, or mansions on the other side of the Hills. Don’t worry, though—if you love those other views, Outpost has those options for you as well. Like the rest of the Hollywood Hills, the views are epic, many of them from swimming pool terraces built into the hills, perfect for sipping a cold drink and watching the sun set over the park in the perfect, temperate southern California climate.
The first settled “outpost” in America’s most famous neighborhood, Outpost Estates has had a long time to perfect its taste in the finer things. Indeed, Outpost Estates homes set a standard for LA fine living.
