Encompassing Griffith Park, Griffith Observatory, and the Los Angeles Zoo, Los Feliz is one of the most diverse and eclectic neighborhoods in LA. Centrally located just north of East Hollywood, the hilly neighborhood situates opulent mansions a stone’s throw away from classic apartments, funky bungalows from classic Old Hollywood estates, to make one of the most engaging mixes of residents in town.
Residents of Los Feliz are hip, creative, and outgoing. The charming downtown area, Los Feliz Village, caters to all of these proclivities with trendy boutique shopping and a thriving upscale gastronomical scene. Los Feliz Village has a “keep-it-local” ethos that adds to the small-town feel and unique vibe.
Many neighborhoods can boast a historic birthplace or two, but Los Feliz might have them all beat—this is the birthplace of Mickey Mouse. Walt Disney was crashing in Los Feliz in the home of his Aunt and Uncle when he drew the iconic cartoon character. It must have stuck with him, because Disney culture is suffused with Los Feliz. Disney opened his first animation studio here, and the entrance to Disney’s California Adventure, Buena Vista Street, is modeled after Los Feliz in 1920.
Nevertheless, walking into Los Feliz isn’t like walking into Disneyland. It’s a hidden gem of classic and contemporary LA architecture. Los Feliz home prices run the gamut, with the median sitting at around $2.2 million. It’s possible to find both ultra-modern affluence and old-school affordability in this cozy neighborhood.
Even those benefits pale in comparison to the convenience of living near Griffith Park, a hiker’s paradise with 53 miles of trails boasting panoramic views, including 360-degree views from the peak of Mt. Hollywood. There’s also a pool, Travel Town Museum, and three municipal golf courses. Griffith Observatory puts the capstone on the whole shebang, with spectacular views and the opportunity for visitors to play with and look through historic telescopes.
There’s never a dull moment in Los Feliz!
