Coming Soon to Hollywood: Tesla’s 1950s Diner

Tesla is making headlines with its unique project: a 1950s-style diner, drive-in movie theater, and charging station combo. Located in Hollywood at 7001 West Santa Monica Boulevard, this site will feature 32 charging stalls and is Tesla's first venture into blending dining and charging. The concept, originally teased by Elon Musk on Twitter six years ago, is now coming to life after receiving approval from the LA Department of Building and Safety in August.

Designed by Stantec and constructed by PCL Construction, the project includes a two-story restaurant, two movie screens, and a rooftop bar, all surrounded by charging stalls. Carhop-style waitstaff will cater to patrons who pre-order from their vehicles. The Hollywood location, previously a Shakey's Pizza, holds historical significance along Route 66.

This innovative concept could pave the way for a new retail category: charge-and-dine stations. While Tesla has been tight-lipped about the project's details, insiders suggest it may be completed by the end of the year. The Hollywood establishment aims to provide a multifaceted experience, including movie screens showcasing famous film clips.

As Tesla plans to open its Superchargers to other car companies in the spring, this project adds another dimension to the EV ownership experience. Unofficial concept images of the project have generated significant interest online.
